Respect VS Fear
Emotions
are a daily part of our lives. Respect and fear they are two different sides of
an emotion. Often, people are in this
misconception that to fear is to respect. They claim that real respect is when
you have people scared of you. Does respect come from the fear people have or
does it come from the inner feeling of admiration someone has for something?
Respect can be defined as the evaluation and consideration of
ideas, values, feelings, thoughts of the person. The feeling of respect is
something that can be earned with the calm and well mannered behavior and fear
can be regarded as the terrific feeling inside the person which can be
exploited everywhere at any place. The word fear and respect are close to each
other as fear leads to destruction as respect always helps in building the
personality of a person.
Parenting has a lot to differentiate between fear and respect.
If a child or teenager is treated with respect at home, it is
likely he will respond positively to being treated with respect at school. But
if he is hit at home and he knows that he can't be hit at school, the teacher's
job will be more difficult. This is one reason why I believe it is important
that we train all teachers in how to earn the respect of their students.
Ideally, I would also like to see all parents and future parents trained in how
to earn the respect of their children. Some, of course, can do this naturally,
but I believe most people could use some formal training. The relation between
students and their teachers, parents and their off springs, and boss and an
employee can moreover go through this process of differentiation between fear
and respect.
Respect is something that can be earned which develops our
personality and broadens the knowledge level leading us to the glory where the
fear can be regarded as the forced feeling which never enhances the success of
the person.
I believe that respect is
one of the bases of control. But this respect must be earned and it must be
mutual. It cannot be forced or demanded. It must not be confused with fear. If
we confuse fear and respect we are returning to the use of fear.
Confidence VS Arrogance
Who is more successful, a confident leader
or an arrogant leader? I would opt for a confident leader over an arrogant
leader. Confidence allows one to look through a different perspective, rather
than looking through just his eyes and that’s the most important trait a leader
should have. Confident leader is always flexible and can adapt to changes
easily unlike the arrogant ones, that’s what makes someone successful and a
happy person. For instance a confident leader would say “I am a good speaker” whereas
an arrogant leader would say “nobody is a good orator than me.” A self centered personality is less likely to be followed. Arrogance and ignorance always sits
close together. Such leaders cannot really know a lot, as there is so little
room in their mind for ideas.
Being confident is always praised and
pleased, however being over confident leads to arrogance, it’s a false
perception of oneself. For example, talking about something you know without
any doubt as well as accepting your mistakes and faults would be confidence but
talking as if you know everything about it would be over confident and boasting
about what you know which is again an arrogant behavior Therefore one should
carefully look upon their acts since it can be perceived as being confident or
being arrogant due to a slight change in your action. Your words and actions
reflect your thoughts.
Hence, confidence is when you know that
you can shoulder all the problems of the world and arrogance is when you think
you are too good enough for the world with so many problems. Clearly,
confidence and arrogance are on opposite ends of a character former one
emerging as a blessing and the latter one as a weakness.
The roles I play every day with certain people, their behavior and reactions; then how I expected they would react.
A Student: As a student, I go to college regularly and
attend all the classes. Most of my teachers are friendly, because of their
behavior it makes the students to co-operate nicely. I am quiet and respectful
student towards my teachers, I obey with everything they say. After college I
stay back at the Brit House and start working on my assignments. Then I return
home at the noon and do my incomplete assignments. My teachers behave and react
the same as I always expect, though sometimes I am late to hand over the
assignments.
A Son: Being a son I complete all my responsibilities.
I respect my parents and do everything that they want me to do. I have the same
task almost every day; also I give all my best to keep them happy. I am respectful to them and even if they yell
at me, I still stay quiet. Sometimes I
am disobedient and do things the way I want, it disappoints my parents but
later I realize I shouldn't have done that and then I apologize to them. There
are certain times when I do the wrong things and my parents make me understand
what’s wrong and what’s right.
A Brother: As I am the elder son
of the family, I have a younger brother. Being the elder one it’s my
responsibility to guide him to the right path. I help him do his assignments
and take some decisions. Though he is in higher secondary school, I still
suggest the best things he can do; how he can improve his studies and other
skills too. Sometimes I am conserved and that does not make him comfortable
with me. He starts being quiet and does not talk to me much then I stop
bothering him which lets him know what’s good for him.
A Friend: Being a friend, I try to be the best what a
person would expect. I like making new friends. We never know which friend
might come useful to us so I am always nice to everyone. Sometimes I have to
act different as in show different personality to some friends because of their
nature. Inside college, I am studious and all I talk to friends is about
studies. I help them with all I can and at times I really need a friend who can
guide me on my projects. I expect almost same from my friends as I am nice to
them most of the times but some of my friends have rude behavior for which I
stop bothering.
What
was I trying trying to achieve and if I succeeded?
Till
now I have succeeded in trying to achieve what I want. I would like to change
my thinking way; sometimes I over-think which leads me to the wrong path most of
the time. Even if I over think I like doing new stuffs and know what the
outcome would be. Everyone is creative in their own ways as all we have in
different is brain, which thinks differently. I am respectful to my parents and
I want to get their trust by fulfilling all the responsibilities of being an
elder son. Being the elder brother, I have been guiding my brother to the right
path. As a student, I have always been obedient and the improvement in my
studies has been proving me as a good student. Lastly being a friend, I have
helped my friends with all I can and will be a trustworthy friend throughout my
career.
For
each of the roles I imagined a
particular place, they are:
Classroom:
I concentrate on what the tutor is teaching and ask him if I am confused about
anything.
Room in my house: I spend some time helping my brother and do
the work given by my parents.
Out with my friends: I play snooker with my friends as I am
inspired from the best snooker player; Ronnie O’Sullivan. Also I love riding
bikes with my friends.
Arrange all the roles in order of priority:
1.
Son
2.
Student
3.
Brother
4.
Friend

Green IT
“Green
IT stands for Green Information Technology. Information Technology is
essentially the design, implementation and management of computers that both
individuals and businesses use.”(www.greenitweek.org)
Computers
are everywhere and we involve it in almost everything that we do. We can say
that technology is embedded in us itself. But do we know what effects our
environment is facing because of the technologies we are using? What they are
made up from?? Where they are gone when we are finished with them?
The
answers to these questions are very simple. Many of the technologies we use
these days, no matter how much expensive they are or how advanced they are,
most of them consists of a silicon chip and this silicon chip is very harmful
for our environment and the systems that we have used are thrown the dump
without proper recycling. The use of information technology has somewhat bad
impact on our environment. But there are some ways in which we can minimize the
negative impact of information Technology use in the environment.
We
should do proper recycling of the computers that we have already used and we
must keep in mind to dispose off the silicon chips in a proper place. When we
are not using our computer, the best thing we can do is that we can turn the
switch off and save energy from being unnecessarily wasted. We can use laptops
instead of desktop because it consumes less energy and we can use it even if
there is no electricity supply. We must use Eco-friendly appliances, i.e. the
appliances which are energy efficient for our household purpose.

My Personality Test
Personality plays a vital role in a person’s life. It
shows how different is the person from others. Everyone wants to have a good
personality for which self-development is necessary. My tutor instructed me to
take a personality test through www.41q.com. It consisted of 41 questions, following
are the results and my views about
the result.
Kamran's
personality type: "Determined Realist"
Practical,
traditional and organized. Likely to be athletic. Not interested in theory or
abstraction unless they see the practical application. Have clear visions of
the way things should be. Loyal and hard-working. Like to be in charge.
Exceptionally capable in organizing and running activities. "Good
citizens" who value security and peaceful living.
Careers
that could fit Kamran include:
Military,
business administrators, managers, police/detective work, judges, financial
officers, teachers, sales representatives, government workers, insurance
agents, underwriters, nursing administrators, trade and technical teachers.
Renowned persons with
similar personality types:
- Andrew Jackson, American president
- Elliot Ness, prohibition
agent
- George W. Bush, American president
- James Monroe, American
president
- John D. Rockefeller, industrialist and philanthropist
- William Henry Harrison,
American president
The above result describes that I
am a more extroverted person than an introverted person. I am friendly with
people around me; also try to share my thoughts and ideas with them which might
be useful for others too.
Whenever I am doing any work, I don’t gather excess information or research deep about any topic; I stick with the main points which are meaningful enough to express the facts. That is how sensibly I gather information about everything.
I am a thinker, I think about things all the
time no matter how big or small it is. Imagining things makes a person creative,
which is for sure. Taking decisions within the feelings is seriously not preferred
by me. There are people who get confused at the final moment and do not know
what to decide so they take their decisions where their feelings lead.
There are some
persons with which my personality matches. George W. Bush, the well known American President. He is a person with
great thoughts; all his hard work and logical analysis led him to be the
president of America. Now he is well known though he had resigned the
presidency of America in 2009 and after knowing that I have similar
personalities with him, I am encouraged to do better.

Improvement of Skills and Attributes
Every
course of study has its own way of learning. Some of them have common ways
whereas some are complicated. None of them are easy to understand as we think
they are. Each course has its own technique of learning. As we know the world
is getting advanced day by day, IT is one of the highest paid job in the
world currently. Software engineers are highly demanded for their talents which
can bring a vast progression in the world. Now days, companies look for highly skilled
graduates who can deal with all the technical problems and having problem
solving capacity and also presenting it in a proper way.
Focusing
on all the modules, I also need to improve both my oral and written English.
Being fluent and having proper speaking skills can be useful to explain others.
Especially when I’ll be facing the big crowd, I’ll have to be strong enough to
solve problems and explain it in the best way I can. This has been one of my
major area of improvement from beginning of the session which I have been equally
focusing with all the modules.
For being
successful in future, I’ll have to concentrate on lectures and class teaching,
staying up to date with assignments of all the modules and also having a good
attendance. It’s been almost 7 weeks I have been in Islington college and it
has been guiding me to the right path. I have been taught about some
programming languages such as Java, Blue J, Python etc. Currently we are working on a
group, in which we have been giving presentations about PowerPoint, explaining
how to use it with some tricky ideas too. I would like to improve my
programming skills and crowd facing skills.
