Improvement of Skills and Attributes

Every course of study has its own way of learning. Some of them have common ways whereas some are complicated. None of them are easy to understand as we think they are. Each course has its own technique of learning. As we know the world is getting advanced day by day, IT is one of the highest paid job in the world currently. Software engineers are highly demanded for their talents which can bring a vast progression in the world. Now days, companies look for highly skilled graduates who can deal with all the technical problems and having problem solving capacity and also presenting it in a proper way.

Focusing on all the modules, I also need to improve both my oral and written English. Being fluent and having proper speaking skills can be useful to explain others. Especially when I’ll be facing the big crowd, I’ll have to be strong enough to solve problems and explain it in the best way I can. This has been one of my major area of improvement from beginning of the session which I have been equally focusing with all the modules.

For being successful in future, I’ll have to concentrate on lectures and class teaching, staying up to date with assignments of all the modules and also having a good attendance. It’s been almost 7 weeks I have been in Islington college and it has been guiding me to the right path. I have been taught about some programming languages such as Java, Blue J, Python etc. Currently we are working on a group, in which we have been giving presentations about PowerPoint, explaining how to use it with some tricky ideas too. I would like to improve my programming skills and crowd facing skills.

Skills and Employment development.

In this course of study, we have to study four modules. One of which is “Study skills for Computing” which deals with making Blogs, using Zoho, group presentations etc. Till now we have been taught the basics in using Blogs and working in a team. From this module, I expect my written and spoken English to improve and also build my confidence while giving presentations. I hope to improve my skills in further future while presenting projects and giving job interview.

The second module that we have to study is “Logic”. It consists of Mathematical based problems which we have been studying in both lower and higher level. In this module we are taught about truth tables, circuit diagrams, and different laws to solve logical problems, numbers based on computer programming. From this module, I expect to solve logical equations and problems and understand the programming codes in a better way.

The another module is “Problem solving for IT”. It is based on different problems which are tricky and can only be solved by thinking logically and not just random thoughts. In this module, we study about IPO charts, flowcharts, structure charts and Algorithms. These are important for computer programming and improves our thinking capability.  And hopefully it will help me improve my mind’s accuracy also help me to understand programming.

Last but not the least, the final module is “Introduction to Programming”. It is based on the usage of Java programming. First we used to do the programming in Notepad and later, when we understood the programming codes better, we started using the software “BlueJ”, which helps us to do the programming in a easier and better way. It will help me to become a good programmer and hopefully it will help me to work in better Companies related to IT.

My expectations and goals.

Throughout my academic years I have been studying many subjects but my main achievements for the entry of this course are Computer science, English and Math. English has helped me both in written and spoken aspects whereas Math has been one of the major subject throughout all these years. I have always been a bright student in these subjects and have scored good marks because of which I did not have to study the foundation year i.e. Year-0 in Islington College.

During my (+2) college, I’ve been a science student and my main focus was on Physics, Chemistry and Math. Having good knowledge in Math, it has helped me solve and understand programming better; I can now get the output easily and accurately. During college we used to have debates, giving presentation facing the class which has helped me to face the crowd also improving my accent. Though I couldn’t learn Computer science during my college, I was into computers most of the times using Photoshop and Microsoft Office. Now I’m learning much about Computer science and getting to know various things about Computer programming in Java and learning to use some websites which are bloggers.com and zoho.com.

Computer is a part of my interest and it is the reason for me join Islington College. I have chosen Computer Programming as my main course for my Bachelors studies and from this course of study, I’m hoping to learn many things which would lead me to become a Computer Engineer and work for good Companies. Knowing how to use all kinds of programming and making good presentations I expect to make various webpage using multimedia skills which would be useful and create better programs which is accessible to everyone. From this course, I would like to be updated about the ongoing and upcoming technologies in the world.

About my life

About Myself:
I am a student, studying BSc computing at Islington College. My name is Mohammad Kamran and I am from a middle class family. I have studied twelve years at Galaxy Public School including my High School too. I love riding bikes with my friends most at the times, it entertains me and them as well.
Since childhood i've been having a keen interest in computers. Mostly spending time on playing computer games and trying to use various kinds of applications and learning new things. I have an aim to be a Computer Engineer so I'm putting all my efforts on it. I feel quite lucky to get a chance to have a London Met University Degree. Its been a couple of days my college has just started and its a great opportunity to get such experienced and nice teachers/lecturers for learning.

Islington college provides an international degree here in Nepal itself. It is a reputed college and has a sound environment. It has provided its students with adequate amount of computer labs, lecture theaters, tutorial classes etc and also has a wireless internet facility for the students. The college staffs and teachers are very co-operative here which makes the students comfortable. The college conducts many programs which will help the students in the future.
After I complete my Bachelors, I would like to continue my studies and go for Masters and become a
better programmer and support my family. I hope that Islington college will support me and help me achieve my goal. But I will work hard too not only depending on the degree.
